The following is a conversation with Jared Kushner, former senior advisor to the President during the Donald Trump administration, and author of Breaking History, a White House memoir. He's one of the most influential and effective presidential advisors in modern history, helping conduct negotiations with some of the most powerful leaders in the world and deliver results on trade, criminal justice reform, and historic progress towards peace in the Middle East.

The Current Situation

On Thursday, October 5th, we recorded a conversation with Jared Kushner on topics of war and peace, history and power in the Middle East and beyond. Little did we know that a day and a half later, the Hamas attack on Israel would occur, leading us to sit down again on Monday, October 9th, to discuss the current situation as it continues to develop.

As of now, the situation is extremely volatile and rapidly unfolding. On Saturday, October 7th, Hamas fired thousands of rockets into Southern Israel, serving as cover for a multi-pronged infiltration of Israeli territory by over 1000 Hamas militants. This led to the killing of civilians, including women and children. In response, the Israeli Air Force began carrying out strikes in Gaza and preparing for a potential ground attack on Hamas and Gaza. The death toll is over 1200 people, with over 130 hostages taken to Gaza by Hamas.

It is crucial to understand that the situation and the numbers may change as this conflict evolves. The IDF is ordering civilian residents of Gaza to evacuate, and Israel has declared war and implemented a complete siege of Gaza, interrupting supplies of electricity, food, water, and fuel to the region.

The Background of the Conflict

To fully comprehend the current crisis, it is essential to understand the history of Hamas and Gaza. Hamas originated from the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and has been responsible for numerous attacks on Israel since its founding in 1988. In 2005, Israel withdrew from Gaza, giving Palestinians governance over the region. However, under Hamas' leadership, the Palestinian people in Gaza have suffered greatly. Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist group by the United States, European Union, UK, and Israel, prioritizes the destruction of Israel over improving the lives of the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, Hamas receives significant support from Iran, which seeks the destabilization of the region and the destruction of Israel. Iran's involvement in the conflict is a critical factor to consider when analyzing the current situation.

The Role of Iran

Iran plays a significant role in the war and its connection to Hamas. There are reports that Iran is behind the recent attack, as Hamas has thanked Iran for its support. Iran has long expressed its desire to destroy Israel and fund various terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. Iran's involvement in the region has been a destabilizing force, supporting violent actions against innocent civilians.

The Importance of Understanding

While it is natural to have sympathy for the suffering of innocent civilians in any conflict, it is crucial to separate Hamas from the Palestinian people. Hamas uses violence and extremism to further its destructive agenda, which ultimately harms the Palestinian people. Recognizing this distinction is vital in supporting the right solutions and working towards peace.

The Path to Peace

Despite the current crisis, there is hope for the future of the region. The Middle East has the potential to become an economic powerhouse and a hub of innovation and progress. The key is to focus on eliminating the threat posed by Hamas and creating a secure environment for Israel while providing opportunities for the Palestinian people to live a better life.

This can be achieved through international cooperation and support for Israel's efforts to eliminate terrorist threats. It requires holding Hamas accountable, directing anger towards the true perpetrators of violence, and working towards a long-term solution that benefits all parties involved. Economic plans, such as the one proposed in the Peace to Prosperity vision, can play a significant role in improving the lives of the Palestinian people if implemented with the right governance and conditions.

Building Trust and Unity

Building trust and unity among nations is crucial in achieving lasting peace. It requires open communication, understanding, and a focus on shared interests and goals. Division and hatred only lead to further conflict, while unity and collaboration can bring about positive change.

It is essential to recognize that most people are inherently good and wish to live better lives. By listening, understanding, and finding common ground, we can overcome hate and work towards a brighter future. Each individual has the power to make a difference by promoting understanding, respect, and love.

The Role of Leadership

Leaders play a critical role in times of crisis. They must demonstrate strength, make calculated decisions, and prioritize the safety and well-being of their people. Benjamin Netanyahu, as the leader of Israel, has extensive experience and knowledge of the security apparatus. He understands the risks and challenges and will likely act with determination, considering both short-term and long-term objectives.

The Importance of Dialogue and Communication

In times of crisis, maintaining open lines of communication is crucial. Despite differences and divisions, it is essential to continue reaching out, engaging in dialogue, and finding areas of agreement. Simple human dynamics, such as picking up the phone and having conversations, can help prevent misunderstandings and bridge gaps.

Looking Towards the Future

While the current situation is challenging, the future holds potential for progress and peace in the Middle East. The region has young leadership, ambitious agendas, and a desire to create a thriving economic hub. By managing the power dynamics, suppressing extremist groups, and promoting unity and collaboration, the Middle East can overcome its troubled past and build a better future.

The Power of Love and Understanding

Defeating hate requires love, understanding, and a commitment to positive change. While hate can be a powerful force, it is ultimately easier to hate people we do not know. By taking the time to listen, engage, and understand one another, we can break the cycle of hatred and work towards a more compassionate and peaceful world.

Most people are inherently good, and love resides in their hearts. While there are evil individuals, the vast majority of people want to live better lives and do not seek violence or conflict. By recognizing our shared humanity and treating one another with kindness and respect, we can overcome hate and work towards a more peaceful future.

The world has the potential for greatness, and it is up to each of us to contribute to that greatness. By focusing on love, understanding, and unity, we can create a world where progress, peace, and prosperity are the norm
